01 Nov A change for the Route du Rhum
It is no secret that despite several redesigns we have been continually plagued with steering system trouble over the last 15 months. Meanwhile Concise 8 remains out of action. Given the unresolved problems the team is sorry to announce that we will not be competing in this years Route du Rhum. We will instead, be concentrating on getting the boat back to 110% with the view to ensuring an action packed campaign next year.
Team Concise has had a boat at the start of every major transatlantic race for the last 6 years. Not wanting to disappear from sight and to ensure a presence in the Route du Rhum, we are pleased to announce that we are supporting Phillippa Hutton Squire, helping her realize a lifetime ambition. Phillippa is already a highly accomplished offshore sailor in her own right; she is the only woman in the Class 40 fleet to have raced around the world, successfully completing the Global Ocean Race. Just by entering Phillippa has entered the history books; she is the first South African to enter this iconic ocean race. With 80,000 Class 40 miles under her belt, she has sailed further that most of the other competitors in the race. Her wealth of experience and well know determination, bodes well for a solid result. Her first aim is to finish this 3,500mile iconic race, and then as she modestly puts it “We will see!”
We are looking forward to continuing to work with Phillippa next year. Concise 2 will be back after her charter and will be run alongside Concise 8, offering a great platform for two boat testing etc. Phillippa will be joined by Nikki Curwen and existing team member Annabel Vose to create the core of Concise 2’s women’s race team. Something we have been keen to promote for several years now.
