Q + A

First sailing experience?

When I was about 8 years old I was sailing Optimists and by 13 I had done my first 60nm race offshore.

When did you know you wanted sailing to be a career?

About 10 years ago when I was working in a kitchen and not getting enough fresh air.

What do you love most about sailing?

The Challenge.

What has sailing taught you?

I never stop learning.

How do you keep going when you’re on the limit?

The sheer thrill of pushing hard when you are on the edge.

  • A little something that keeps me going: Live life on the edge otherwise you take up too much space and you are not pushing the limits far enough.

How do you spend your time when not sailing?

Dream about the next challenge.

Who has inspired you the most?

Isabelle Autissier

Isabelle has been talked about in our house since I was very small. Dad read her books and talked about her when she sailed into Cape Town…. If she could do it so could I and it was always a dream to sail around the world like she did and then I did it!! My dream came true 😉

Favourite position on board?
